Born in 1974 in the Chinese province of Jilin, Li Hongbo began his artistic career at the fine arts academy of his home town, gaining a master’s degree in art and folk traditions. After working as a book publisher and designer, his unusual affection for paper led him to sculpt it, from thousands of sheets of paper gathered and pasted together, inspired by traditional techniques. Thus arose the figure of an ancestral warrior, a skull or tree trunks. Once opened out, all his daring experiments bring protean and fantastic works to life, “The endless possibilities of paper”. Li Hongbo’s works have been exhibited internationally : Paris, NY, Hong Kong, Singapore, Italy, Australia… And, more recently, at the museum of Ludwigsburg (Germany) and at Today Art (Beijing).
